Doing the chair. Modifiers Loft, Extrude and Bevel in 3d max
In this lesson we will continue the study of splines. Let's start with a familiar modifier Loft. Next, learn to work with two modifiers Extrude and Bevel, they are not much alike, but have some differences, which analyze in this lesson. And consider the effect of all these modifiers will be through the creation of a chair.
Create a new scene, and perhaps start with the seat of the chair to do this, go to the tab «Create», select the objects «Geometry», then the drop-down list, select the «Extended Primitives» and clicking «ChamferBox»
Create a box with dimensions as shown:
We have created a box with rounded edges is because in real life are very few things are perfect sharp edge.
As a result, got the front seat rail:
Now create a box with rounded edges, but with the following parameters:
And pristroyte it to the first boxing match like this:
When you'll move the objects which either do it in views from the side or from above but not in the long run, so you can place an object with greater precision. So on our rails on the top view it looks like this:
As you can see, they are not a lot of overlap.
Now sopiruyte side rail and place it the same on the other side of the front rail and front rail, copy the back slats into place:
If you have forgotten how to copy objects, it is pinching press «Shift» key on your keyboard and moving the object to be copied (for details, it is disassembled by the lesson number 2).
Then move on to create the front legs of the chair. To do this, go to the tab «Create», select the objects «Shapes», click «Line»
and create a spline, which is shown in the figures.
Left:
Front view:
The total height of 58 feet will be. Pay attention to the upper leg while she was a little bent forward and outward.
Now create a second spline is called «Circle» (circle) with a radius of 1.5, while the number of segments 24:
Now select the first spline and go to the tab «Create» choose a lining «Geometry» drop-down list «Compound Objects», press the button «Loft»
Tool «Loft» allows you to create objects using the specified section and the specified direction. So as a cross-section, we will serve the second spline - a circle, and the role of the direction of the first spline. So make sure that the spline is selected first, then click «Get Shape»
And click on the circle. The result is such a leg:
Since splines were created by the subsidiary is now possible to hide them to not to hinder but it's better not to remove them unnecessarily can then become clear that the result was not as expected and as a source editing splines can change the resulting object.
Copy this leg and flip it on the X axis with the tool «Mirror»:
The result is a two legs of the chair:
Now we collect all that we have together, place the rack so that the bending of the legs began immediately after them. At the same place at the junction of the top view should look like this:
As a result, you should get something like this:
Now create the same way the rear legs of the chair, guiding splines will look like in the figures
Left:
Front view:
The total height of the spline must be 74. Using already created a section in the tool «Loft» get a leg here:
Similarly, copy this leg, shows how to obtain a copy and attach them to the chair:
Next, create two cylinders of radius 0.9 and place them between the front and rear legs of the chair:
We now turn to the creation of the chair handles, so go to a top view, and create a first half of the handle:
View from above:
Left:
Front view:
At the same time the highest point should be at 85.
Then go to edit the sub «Spline»:
Select the spline and make a copy of:
Flip received a copy of the tool, «Mirror»:
Get something like this:
Next, move the copy so that the resulting two points on the site of the junction have merged into one, select the two points and connect them by clicking on the button «Weld»:
If the two selected vertices are at a distance less than the specified next to the button «Weld», these peaks merge into one. This way you can not just glue the two peaks, but in general any number of vertices.
Create a spline section - a circle of radius 1.8, and using the tool «Loft» complete the creation of the handle:
Now, not much rounded ends of the handles at the same time reducing the thickness is not much closer to the end. To do this, go to the tab «Modify» section «Deformation» and press «Scale»:
In the next window shows a graph which can be varied by changing the thickness of the beginning of obekta.Dlya put an end to the middle of the graph using the tool «Insert Corner Point»:
Here it is:
Add a few more points, and change the schedule as shown:
The height of the top 120 pixels of the lower 95
Zoom in using the tools at the bottom right of the window and arrange control vertices so to round the ends of handles:
At the same time to achieve a smooth change the type of graph vertices, as well as with spline:
As a result, we have not much rounded handle:
Change the other end of the graph is similar to round the second hand.
Next, create a chair seat, to do this, create «ChamferBox» with the following parameters:
Further, it should not shrink much, to do this, select this box and click the right mouse button on the tool «Select and Uniform Scale» on the main toolbar:
In the window that appears, specify that it is necessary to shrink an object along the Z axis by 40%:
Well, the seat and put in its place:
We now turn to the creation of the back. Create a spline shape to completely cover the hole in the back of a chair, with the advice to start with one half and then copying and reflection, ie we created a chair handles. When you create a necessarily close the spline.
Front view:
Left:
In the list of modifier (Modifier List) search modifier «Extrude» under «Object-Space Modifiers».
This modifier is not much like the action of the tool «Loft», he also takes a cross-section and a sort of "squeezing" him, making a flat spline volumetric object. Only in contrast to the Loft modifier that does not require rail, squeezing always occurs in a straight line. To understand how this works is enter in the «Amount» is 1, all other fields leave as they were by default:
As you can see the spline has found the amount of:
Notice that the window is supplemented with the components of the spline modifier «Extrude»:
And highlighting the various lines in this box, we move on to edit the relevant parts. Thus, if the result after applying the modifiers you do not like something, you can go back to editing the vertices and change the starting spline. Lastly tell you about the light bulb next to the modifier
by default it is on (white), this means that the modifier is active and influences the resulting object if it goes off to press it (will be grayed out), and this modifier will cease to influence the outcome.
Now copy back and delete the copy modifier «Extrude», for this, right-click on the modifier and select Delete:
And add the modifier «Bevel». By its action it resembles Extrude, but has a very important feature. This modifier allows you to make a chamfer on the ends of the object, it is useful to us in the manufacture of cushions for the back seat. Configure the modifier as shown below:
Not a lot of talk about the basic configuration of the modifier. In the section «Surface», there are two values of «Linear Sides» and «Curved Sides». If you leave it selected first facet is a clearly defined edges. If you leave the second, the chamfer will be more rounded. «Segments» - the higher the number, the more sections between the facets and the smoother will be the bevel itself. In the roll «Bevel Values» setting themselves facets. There can be three levels of the bevel to add another level of need to put the checkbox next to the number of the corresponding level. Each level has two parameters «Height» - is responsible for the height of the extrusion and «Outline» - the larger the value, the greater the angle of the bevel.
Place the pillow was created on a chair:
And that lesson is completed. Lastly, you can paint all the parts of the chair of the appropriate color, to change parts of the chair if they do not seem very accurate. Sometimes it happens that what we notice small errors when the object is collected.
In this lesson we learned from the action of the tool «Loft». It was introduced in the following lessons, I think we will examine it more thoroughly. Well mastered modifiers «Bevel» and «Extrude».
